There is no shame in being at the back of the pack…..or out there all alone.
There is no shame in NOT clipping in.
There is no shame in walking hills.
There is no shame in dry-heaving as you climb hills.
There is no shame if you have to “sit a spell” and rest after you finally make it to the top of that damn hill.
There is no shame in asking questions.
There is no shame when you aren’t sure how to use your gears…..or not know how many gears you even have.
There is no shame in NOT finding a cute jersey like everyone else that fits. Wear what you want anyway….there are no rules in gravel.
There is no shame in only riding five miles or being sore as HELL after those five miles.
There is no shame in not having all the fancy equipment or even know what all the fancy equipment is or does.
There is no shame in not knowing what to eat out there. Trust me, you’ll figure it out.
There is no shame in starting before you are ready and seeing how far you will go. Keep that gumption….always.
There is no shame in starting something new at 35, 45, 55, 65…or hell….70.
There IS shame in making a
newbie cyclist……..a FELLOW cyclist feel “less than” because they relate to an item on the above list. Seasoned cyclists…don’t forget where you came from, from where you started. Don’t forget that there are others striving to get to your “level” . Some of us have to segue to that next level….on OUR terms…the best way we know how.
FELLOW cyclists….the important thing is to get out there and ride, keep building the cycling community, and support every cyclist no matter their skill level…..focus on their HEART level.
